Marsing School District Hosts Year End Event to Promote Connection for Students and Families

In order to support families and promote social connection for the Marsing community, the Marsing School District held an exciting  end of the year Cinco de Mayo event. The event, which brought in almost 200 Marsing teens and their families, featured a free taco dinner, a homemade salsa competition, and a mariachi band. Fun options for kids included a bounce house, musical chairs, bingo, face painting, and many other activities!

The Marsing School District and Marsing Youth Prevention Coalition are focused on boosting social connection and family support following recent survey data from Marsing middle and high school students showing the importance of these factors for youth well-being. Strong social connections and family support are factors that are key to positive youth mental well-being and to prevent alcohol, marijuana, vaping, and other drug use. This event is just one of many that the Marsing School District is hosting to promote improved well-being for their students.

"Our early Cinco De Mayo event brought our community together in a joyful and inclusive way, helping to strengthen social connections between families, students, and staff, one of the core goals of the Marsing Project. It was especially meaningful to see families we don’t always get to engage with, making this a powerful opportunity to build relationships and foster a deeper sense of belonging for all who call Marsing home,” said Marsing School District superintendent Norm Stewart.

With support from Southwest District Health and the Partnerships for Success Grant, the Marsing School District will continue to host activities and events that promote connection and well-being for Marsing teens in the upcoming academic year, so stay tuned for more information on future events!
