Boise School District Highlights Efforts to Address Youth Mental Health Challenges

Updated: Mar 14

The Boise School District recently highlighted various initiatives they have engaged in to prevent and address youth mental health challenges in a district-wide email to parents and supporters. As one of the original partners in the Communities for Youth Boise Initiative, Boise Schools has been working for the past three years to take a data-driven approach to youth mental health and well-being. The email highlights some of the key data points and trends from Boise Schools Youth Well-being Survey data and describes the district’s ongoing efforts to enhance student’s mental health.

The email highlighted findings from the Student Wellbeing Survey, conducted in partnership with Communities for Youth, which showed a decrease in students reporting thoughts of suicide and decreased depression rates among Boise students. The survey results also showed a strong correlation between having a trusted adult at school and lower depression rates, with 76% of students reporting that they have a trusted adult to turn to.
