Communities for Youth Executive Director, Dr. Megan Smith, presents the 2024 Youth Well-being Survey results to Blaine County community members.

The Blaine County Communities for Youth Initiative is excited to invite community members to a “data walk” on Thursday, December 4, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Community Campus (1050 Fox Acres Rd, Hailey).

There will be free pizza available for all attendees to enjoy, and Spanish translation services will be provided to ensure that everyone in our community can participate in this important and engaging event.

Data walks provide community members, including parents, grandparents, concerned citizens, and local leaders, with opportunities to better understand and process the Idaho Youth Well-being Survey results for middle and high school students in Blaine County Schools.

If you are interested in attending, please consider RSVPing through the link below. RSVPs are not required, but they are greatly appreciated.

What's a Data Walk?

Data walks are events where community members are invited to learn about the survey results.  Each data walk starts with a general overview of the Communities for Youth data-driven community engagement process. Attendees are then separated into small groups, which rotate around 7-8 data posters that the Communities for Youth team prepares using local youth survey results. At each poster, group members build their understanding of what the data is saying and then have brief, facilitated conversations about what it means. At the end of the meeting, we prioritize what areas of well-being we would like to focus on for the following year. This fun, interactive, community-driven event takes about 90 minutes.

Who Should Attend?

Everyone is welcome; this is truly a community-wide effort!

Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, youth service professionals, elected and business leaders, community organizations, neighborhood groups, and others are all encouraged to attend.

Whether you want to learn more about how local youth are doing, share your perspective, or contribute to creating positive change, this event is a great opportunity to get involved.

2024 Data Walk Overview

Last year’s data walk featured data and conversations around:

  • High stress in relation to family connection

  • Depression by grade and gender

  • Social isolation in relation to having a trusted adult

  • Stress and self-awareness

  • Depression and social isolation

  • Depression and sleep

Following the presentations, community members discussed the survey results and voted to continue focusing on improving youth social connection and exploring ways to increase young people’s feelings of mattering and belonging, as well as levels of self-awareness.

These focus areas were identified in the 2024 Blaine County Youth Well-being Survey as key drivers of local teens’ mental health and overall well-being. Promoting youth social connection remains a priority from the 2023–2024 school year, while efforts to enhance youth feelings of mattering, belonging, and self-awareness represent a newer focus the community has been working on over the past year.
