Marsing Breaks Ground on New Fitness Court

On Thursday, September 12th, an enormous milestone was reached with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Owyhee County Fitness Court! The Fitness Court® is a state-of-the-art, digitally connected platform for all ages and abilities to develop healthy habits and maintain long-term wellness. If the weather cooperates, we anticipate this state-of-the-art facility to be ready for community use by the end of 2024.

This free fitness court located next to the Marsing HUB is designed to accommodate individuals of all ages and abilities, ensuring everyone has access to the resources they need to stay active and healthy. Spearheaded by the Owyhee Health Coalition (OHC) and the City of Marsing, this project aims to enhance physical activity opportunities for every community member, including youth!

Providing youth with more opportunities for physical activity is a key goal of the Communities for Youth SW Idaho Initiative. Recent data found that physical activity is one of the main drivers of depressive symptoms for Marsing youth, and the community has been working to promote physical activity opportunities as a way to support overall youth well-being.

Sponsors and founders complete the first dig for The Fitness Court.

The realization of this project is a testament to the dedication of the OHC, the City of Marsing, and numerous generous donors. Organizations that donated to this project include St. Luke’s FitOne, the National Fitness Campaign, Blue Cross Foundation of Idaho, Idaho Commerce/Idaho Gem Grant, AARP, the City of Marsing, Owyhee County, Southwest District Health, DeRuyter Dairy, Southwest Idaho Legacy Organization, Us Ecology, AMVAC, and anonymous donors!

Marsing School District Superintendent, Norm Stewart says, “This is an exciting project for Marsing because it promotes fitness and well-being both to our kids at the HUB and for the public at large. This is intended to become a community gathering space where public fitness classes can happen and everyone can use and benefit from it.”

The fitness court promises to be an invaluable asset for our community, offering a safe space for students and families to learn healthy movement techniques while connecting with others. We look forward to a variety of group classes and activities that will foster community engagement and promote active lifestyles. Get ready to move and connect in this exciting new space!
